30 injured in clash over Iftar in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ, Mar 13: At least 30 people including women were injured in a clash between two groups in Tahirpur of the district over Iftar distribution in a mosque.

The incident took place in Mandiata Village under Uttar Sreepur Union of the upazila on Tuesday evening.
Of the injured, Pabel Mia, 23, has been admitted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition. Besides, four people have been admitted to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex. First aid was given to the rest.

According to the villagers, a man, named Maina Mia of the village, distributed Iftar at a local mosque. During the distribution, people from two groups clashed with indigenous weapons, which left at least 30 people injured.

Officer-in-Charge of Tahirpur Police Station Mohammad Nazim Uddin confirmed the incident, adding that the situation is now under control.
