18 men jailed for fishing in Barishal sanctuary


A total of 18 fishermen have been jailed and one has been fined in Barishal's Hijla upazila for fishing in sanctuary during prohibited time.

On Tuesday afternoon, members of the Fisheries Department, Hijla Upazila Administration and police members jointly conducted an operation in the Meghna River of the upazila and sentenced those people.
Confirming the matter, senior fisheries officer of the upazila Mohammad Alam said 19 fishermen were arrested for the fishing during the prohibited time in the Meghna river sanctuary. Out of this, 18 persons have been sentenced to 15 days imprisonment and fined Tk one hundred and one fisherman has been fined Tk five hundred.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Sudipta Kumar Singh conducted the mobile court.
