A housewife was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a shallow-engine run tractor at Debiganj upazila in
Panchagarh district on Tuesday afternoon.
The
accident took place at around 5pm in Tistar Haat Bazaar area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Monjila Akter, 27, wife of Sheikh Farid, a resident of the area.
According to locals, Monjila went to the market to withdraw some cash. On the way, her mobile phone fell on the road when she was crossing the road. At that time, when she tried to pickup the phone, a speeding bricks-laden tractor ran over her, leaving her dead on the spot.
Being informed, firefighters recovered the body from the spot and handed over to the Debiganj Police Station.
Later, the body was handed over to the family without autopsy upon their request, said a police official.
Police also seized the truck, however, its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, the police official added.
