Tourist couple drowns while bathing in Cox's Bazar beach

A couple drowned while taking bath at Laboni Point of Cox's Bazar beach on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kashem Bakul, 35, hailed from Bonpara in Baraigram Upazila in Natore district and his wife and Sultan Ali's daughter Sabikun Nahar Shoma, 28.
Confirming the matter, Gazi Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Tourist Police, Cox's Bazar, said the couple got down into the sea at about 10:30am at Seagull Point.

Dr Ashiqur Rahman, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, said the tourist couple had died before they were brought at the hospital. The bodies of the couple were kept at the hospital morgue.

Tourist Police said the couple got into Seagull Hotel near the sea-beach reaching Cox's Bazar from Dhaka on Saturday morning. They got into Room No. 327. At about 9:30am, the duo went to the beach coming of the hotel room. They passed some time staying under the umbrellas at the beach. Then both of them got down to the sea for bathing.

Sea Safe Life Guard supervisor Osman Gani said the presence of tourists at Cox's Bazar sea beach has declined because of blockade and hartal of the opposition. On Saturday last, some 1,000 tourists by train and 4,000 more tourists by different other vehicles came here. Though some 1,500 tourists got down into the sea at Sugandha Point on Sunday morning, there was no crowd at the Seagull Point on the northern side. The tourist couple died after getting into the sea.
