LIA inks deal with IFC

Legislative Impact Assessment (LIA) under the Law ministry has signed an agreement with International Finance Corporation (IFC), a sister concern of the World Bank.

The deal was signed at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Thursday.

Law Minister Anisul Huq was present at the signing programme as the chief guest.

Shahidul Haque, senior secretary of Legislative Parliamentary Affairs division of Law ministry, and chief economist of IFC Dr. Mashrur Riaz signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides.

With the signing of the agreement, economic, legal and social development of the country people will be emphasized.

"Legislative Impact Assessment is a must for good governance. Bangladesh will be benefited from the deal," he said.

In view of turning Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041, the LIA has signed this deal with the IFC, the minister added.

Dr. Masiur Riaz said LIA will play an important role ahead of any decision regarding the country's economic and social development.

IFC Country Manager Ahsanul Azim was also present at the programme.

After the signing in ceremony, the Law minister formally opened the LIA activities.
