Warrant issued against BNP chief in 2 cases
Two courts in Dhaka on Thursday issued arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in separate cases-- a defamation case and a graft case.
Dhaka special judge court-5 judge Md Akhtaruzzaman passed the order as the BNP chief failed to appear before court timely in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Meanwhile, Metropolitan Magistrate Nur Nabi passed another arrest order for undermining Bangladesh's map and national flag.
The former prime minister has been in London for the last three months.
"The courts issued arrest warrants in two cases on the same day. It's a ploy by the government so that she can't return home," Khaleda's counsel Sanaullah Mia told bdnews24.com.
