A Dhaka University (DU) student was allegedly stabbed by a former DU student at Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall on Tuesday night.
The victim identified as Omar Faruq, is a fourth year student of Population Sciences Department.
He was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately with four stab injuries.
A three-member committee was formed to probe into matter and asked to submit the report by 24 hours, confirmed SM Hall Provost Prof Md Mahbubul Alam Joarder.
The attacker was identified as Abu Jubair Talha, an alleged illegal student of the dormitory and also an executive member of former SM Hall unit Chhatra League.
Talha escaped the hall along with his younger brother after the incident, hall sources said.
Omar Faruq was the mess manager for the running month. He asked Talha's younger brother not to take extra meal during lunch as that are estimated for limited number of students, another eyewitness and mess committee member Badiuzzaman Sufi said.
"Hearing this, Talha stabbed Faruq during the dinner," he added.
After operation Omar Faruq had kept under observation at DMCH.
Hall Provost Prof Mahbubul Alam Joarder said, "The probe committee has made a report that has already been sent to the VC and Proctor. As the matter is confidential I won't say anything more. University authority will take proper steps according to the probe report."
