Body of missing sewer worker found

A sewer worker, who went missing after entering a manhole in Mirpur-7 on Tuesday afternoon, was found dead after 24 hours on Wednesday afternoon, reports UNB.

A group of sewer workers went down the manhole to clean the line near Chalantika intersection on Milk Vita Road around 3:30pm on Tuesday. All except one worker, aged around 18-20, subsequently came out.

Being informed, a team from Mirpur Fire Service station went to the spot and started a rescue operation from Tuesday afternoon, UNB said.

They recovered the body of the missing worker from 300-400 metres away from the spot around 3:40pm today, said duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence central control room Mahfuz Reven.

The identity of the victim could not be ascertained immediately, said sub-inspector Palash of Rupnagar Police Station.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post mortem, he said.
