Gaibandha 'dacoit' lynched after house owner shot dead

A suspected robber was killed in a mob beating after a house owner was shot dead by a gang of robbers during robbery at Char Choumohon village in Chouhali upazila of Gaibandha early Wednesday.

One of the dead was identified as house owner Dula Mia.

Quoting locals, police said a gang of robbers swooped on the house of Dula Mia around 3am. At one stage of robbery, the gang members shot Dula as he obstructed them, leaving him dead on the spot.

Hearing the inmates' cry for help, villagers rushed in and caught one of the robbers while others managed to flee the scene.

The angry mob beat the robber black and blue, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police rushed to the scene and sent the bodies to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital morgue, said Masrukur Rahman Khaled, superintendent of Gaibandha police.
