1 recovered, 3 missing in Lalmonirhat flood water
Lalmonirhat: Four persons include two children drowned into the floodwater while they were coming to the safe places from their homes by Kolar Bhura (Banana tree made vessel) at Purbo Baruya village of Kulaghat union in Lalmonirhat sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.
After two hours a body of child was recovered floating in the floodwater in the village but three other remained missing.
A five-member team from Lalmonirhat Fire Service conducted rescue operation for two-hour long but couldn’t find them.
The deceased was identified as Nadim Islam, 5, son of Robiul Islam at Purbo Baruya village in Sadar upazila.
Three missing are Nadim’s mother Nazma Begum, 23, her neighbour Mozam Uddin, 33, and his son Alif Islam, 6 of Purbo Baruya village.
Nadim’s father Robiul Islam said, his wife Nazma Begum, son Nadim Islam along with neighbour Mozam Uddin and his son Alif Islam drowned due to hit by heavy current of floodwater while trying to go to the safe places by Kolar Bhura.
“I was sent my wife and son firstly and it was decided that I will go to safe place along with cattle and assets later,” he said with tears, adding “I found my son’s body, my wife is missing.”
“We were trying to recover bodies of Mozam and his son Ali in the floodwater but failed,” said Mozam’s cousin Shahabuddin Miah,45, at same village.
Saiful Islam, president of District Swechchhasebok League in Lalmonirhat said, they took away the child body to the mainland and graved away it at Dindighi area as there was no space for graving the body at Purbo Baruya village due to floodwater.
Confirming it the District Council Chairman Matiar Rahman said, he called to fire service team to recover three other bodies. Local people would also try to recover these bodies, he said.
