Govt smells plot out of fear : BNP
The BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the government is now finding conspiracy in the 16th constitutional amendment verdict in fear of losing power.
Terming the verdict historic, he said, "The Supreme Court gave the verdict at a time when the state is on the verge of ruination. After the observations of the SC in its verdict, the government has no moral right to remain in power."
The senior BNP leaders was addressing a doa mahfil at party's Naya Paltan office on Saturday. Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal organised the programme seeking recovery of BNP chief Khaleda Zia who is now in the UK for treatment.
On August 1, the Supreme Court released the full text of the verdict on 16th constutional amendment. Since then, it has been in the centre of discussions.
The Appellate Division verdict has revived the Supreme Judicial Council to sack top court judges.
Mirza Fakhrul also said that comments made by the ministers regarding the issue have exposed the character of Awami League.
He assumed that counry people's aspiration would not be reflected if a fair election is not held.
