HC sets Aug 6 for Biswajit murder verdict

The High Court has set August 6 to deliver its verdict on the death references and appeals of the convicts against the death penalty awarded to them for killing tailor Biswajit Das in 2012.
An HC bench of Justice M Ruhul Quddus and Justice Vishmadev Chakraborty fixed the date after hearing the death references and appeals.
On Dec 9, 2012, Bangladesh Chhatra League activists hacked Biswajit to death near the Bahadur Shah Park in the old part of Dhaka during a strike called by BNP-led 18-Party alliance.
A speedy trial tribunal in Dhaka on December 18, 2013, convicted 21 BCL men. Of them, eight were awarded death penalty and 13 life imprisonment.
Those were given death sentence are : Rafiqul Islam Shakil, Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, Emdadul Haque, GM Rasheduzzaman Shawon, Saiful Islam, Quaiyum Mia, Rajon Talukder and Nur-e Alam Limon. Of them, Talukder and Limon are absconding.
The lifers are : Golam Mostafa, HM Kibria, Yunus Ali, Tarik Bin Johor Tomal, Alauddin, Obaidur Qader Tahsin, Imran Hossain, Azizur Rahman, Al-Amin Sheikh, Rafiqul Islam, Kamrul Hasan, Monirul Haque Pavel and Mosharraf Hossain.
Only Mostafa and Kibria are behind the bars. The rest are absconding.
