SUST suspends four BCL men
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) authority suspended four Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men for one semester for their involvement in sexual harassment of a school girl and assaulting two journalists.
The decision was taken at the 205th syndicate meeting held on Saturday at VC's office with the Vice Chancellor in the chair.
University authority also warned BCL unit President Sanjiban Chakrabarti Partha for his irresponsibility
to handle the situation when his followers had got involved in sexual harassment and assaulting two journalists.
University investigation committee got proof of involvement of two BCL activists - Mahmudul Hasan Rudra and Sajjad Hossain Riad in the sexual harassment of a school girl while Rahat Siddiki and Sumon Sarker Joni were involved in assaulting two journalists, said University Register Ishfaqul Hossain, when connected.
Earlier, a female student was harassed sexually and her cousin was beaten up allegedly by the BCL activists on April 8 at SUST campus while they came to visit it.
Sarder Abbas, the district correspondent of the Daily Observer, and Syed Nabiul Alam Dipu, the university correspondent of the daily Sakaler Khabor, came under attack as they were inquiring into the incident and protest sexual harassment.
Following this incident, victim's mother filed a case with court on April 12 and the court order Taslima Sharmin to investigate the incident.
