One of the owners of BPL franchise Barisal Bulls Abdul Awal Chowdhury made a serious offence against Bangladesh Test skipper and the icon of the Barisal in the last edition Mushfiq labelling him as 'undisciplined and irresponsible'. The words hurt Mushfiq a lot and made him cry on Saturday.
Mushfiq talked to the BPL governing body and senior players of the team. The BPL governing body assured him to take proper action against Abdul Awal Chowdhury.
After the practice on Saturday, Mushfiq sit with Mashrafe, Tamim and Shakib regarding the issue then they sit with BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and BPL governing body member secretary and BCB director Ismail Haider Mallick. After the meeting they faced the media regarding the issue. Mushfiq talked to the media with teary eyes and at the end he could not even hold his tears and finish his speech.
Mushfiq said, "I have been playing cricket for 17 years. In national team I have playing for 12 years. Till now none said anything like that regarding me. Yes, you can talk about my performances on the field or say that I am not a good player. But I felt very bad after hearing the questions he (Awal) raised about my discipline and sense of responsibility, or that I don't encourage players and speak in team meetings, that felt really bad."
"As a cricketer it is so painful for me to hear. Today it happened to me, tomorrow it can happen to someone else. A player can expect that much respect, we have been serving the country for so long, a little respect...," said Mushfiqur, unable to finish his sentence and left the room with tears in his eyes.
Where Mushfiq stopped his speech, BPL governing council member secretary Ismail Haider Mallick started from there who also attended the briefing alongside Mushfiqur.
He said, "We are looking into the whole issue. What I can say at the moment is that the comments were not appropriate. He cannot simply say something like this about a captain and national team player."
"If they have any complain against any player they should inform it to the governing body. If any player made any mistake the board will look after the issue and will penalty him. But no franchise is eligible to do so," added Mallick.
Earlier, one of the owners of Barisal franchise and BCB director Abdul Awal said a private TV channel, "We are totally not interested (in him). We sent a letter last year to him regarding his discipline issues and for making some bad comments regarding the franchise. The players expect that the captain will sit with them and encourage them, make team plans. He is a good player but he is not a good captain that is very important in T20 format."
Regarding the comment of Awal, Mallick said, "Our CEO and I watched the whole video. The issue seemed to us indecent. I talked to the BPL governing body chairman regarding the issue. Our board president is not in country otherwise we would talk to him as well. Whatever he said in the media is not acceptable."
Barisal franchise criticise Mushfiq badly but last year they show their huge interest to bag Mushfiq in their team.
Mallick said, "Mushfiq did not want go to play for Barisal. But Barisal showed their huge interest to take Mushfiq and then we talked to Mushfiq to play for Barisal. All the questioned raised are very hard to accept."
"We have already called him and will serve him a show-cause notice. If we don't get a reasonable response we will take action against the franchisee," he added.
Mallick also informed, Mushfiq need not to do anything more. The Test skipper had to inform that to the authority and he did it. Now the rest is in BPL governing body's hand.  Players are waiting to see now what the authority do.
