RAB held 29 'gays' in Keraniganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained 29 youths from a community centre in Dhaka's Keraniganj early Friday on suspicion of 'homosexuals'.
The youths, all aged around 20, were nabbed from the community centre at Atirbazar area at about 3am, said a RAB source.

The elite force also claimed to have recovered narcotics and sex stimulating materials from their possessions.

The suspected gays were taken to RAB-10  camp in Keraniganj, said RAB-10 commander Jahangir Hossain Matubbar. adds : "These men have been coming here from parts of the country for the last two months to spend the nights. We raided the community centre early Friday, based on complaints by locals,” said Matubbar.

"They've told us they took part in homosexual activities. We have found drugs, condoms and lubricants with them. Most of them are students."

The arrestees will be faced with drug charges, he said.

Homosexuality is illegal in Bangladesh.
