Section 57 of the ICT law to be simplified
Law Minister Anisul Huq on Thursday said that his ministry has taken initiatives to remove confusions regarding the section 57 of the existing 'Information and Communication Technology Act, 2013' simplifying its provisions by amendment soon.
"To eliminate the confusions regarding the provisions of the section 57, new law 'The Digital Security Act' is being promulgated. The 'misgivings' regarding the section 57 will be cleared in the new digital law," the Minister told reporters at Secretariat emerging from a meeting with the stakeholders regarding the Digital Security Act, which was already approved by the Cabinet.
He informed that the draft of the Digital Security Act was approved in the Cabinet meeting on August 22 last year. After getting the in principle approval, it was sent to the Law Ministry. It will be sent to the Cabinet again soon with the opinion of the Law Ministry.
Regarding the meeting with the stakeholders, Anisul Huq said the meeting has agreed to finalise the draft of the digital law as everybody think that such a law is necessary in the country to tackle the anomalies and misdeeds in the ICT sector.
He also assured that the government will simplify the provisions and ensure ending its misuse in future. But, investigations and trial of the cases lodged under the law will continue as per the law.
Later, the Minister handed over keys of vehicles to 11 lower court judges. The ministry bought the vehicles - five cars and six micro-buses - spending around Tk 4 crore.
