Ctg Abahani, Mohammedan in quarterfinal
Chittagong Abahani, the port city team, confirmed the quarterfinals of the Walton Federation Cup Football 2017 outplaying defending runner-up Arambagh Krira Sangha by 2-1 margin on Thursday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
While the Arambagh boys had to take the early flight from the group stage after Chittagong team won over them, Mohammedan Sporting Club, the traditional black and white jerseys, rejoiced as it eventually secured the quarterfinals as well.
Before the match, Chittagong Abahani and Mohammedan Sporting Club had three points each while Arambagh Krira Sangha was in the back-foot with no point in its collection.
On the day, Striker Afeez Oladipo converted a header of Zahid to hit the net and put Chittagong Abahani ahead in the 34th minute.
However, Arambagh restored the parity soon in the 37th minute while its Cameroonian midfielder Ikanga Jean Juales hit the net finding an unguarded post.
Chittagong boys confirmed the win with a 61-minute goal of Ndukaku Uduka Alison.
The fixture of the Federation Cup Football was rescheduled in a meeting of the Professional League Committee of the Federation on Wednesday. According to the new schedule, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will face Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra today (Friday) at 5:30pm while Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra and Dhaka Abahani will engage in the last group match of the event on Monday at the same time.
