Shafat, Sakif confess involvement

Shafat Ahmed and Sadman Sakif, prime accused in Banani rape case have confessed to their involvement before the court, and they have been sent to jail.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib and Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury recorded two accuser's confessional statements when investigation officer in the rape case Ismat Ara Ami produced the accused before the court after completion of their remand.

The metropolitan magistrates sent both of them to jail.

On May 12, 2017, a Dhaka court put Shafat and Sakif on 6-day and 5-day remand respectively.

On May 6, two private university girls filed a rape case with Banani police station, accusing five in the rape incident.

On March 28, two university girls were raped at the Raintree Hotel in Banani when the victims were persuaded to attend a birthday programme of Apan Jewellers' owner Dildar's son Shafat Ahmed.

Following the rape case, Shafat and Sakif were arrested from Sylhet.
