Police and students of Medical Assistant Training School (MATS)  locked in a clash in city's Shahbagh area on Thursday.

Two woman police members--constables Kakoli and Marzan-- were injured during fisticuffs with the students while 11 students fell sick inhaling tear gas.

The students blockade the road from Shahbagh intersection to the TSC crossing till 3:30pm.

The clash ensued at about 12 noon as police intercepted the students while moving towards the Prime Minister's Office to present a memorandum containing their four-point demand.

MATS students are on movement since April 26  to press home for their four-point demands including higher studies.

Both law enforcers and students locked in a chase and counter chase, leaving two female cops injured.

Police lobbed teargas shells and used water canon on the students near the National Museum.

Later, the unruly students vandalised some vehicles in front of BIRDEM Hospital.

Police at that time picked up nine students from the spot.
