Thirty three out of 56 Bangladesh missions abroad have failed to achieve their respective export target for the first three quarters (July-March) period of the current fiscal (2016-17).

The key Bangladesh missions like the ones in Washington, London, Madrid, Ottawa, Canberra, Ottawa, and Tokyo have failed to achieve their July-March export targets while some other important missions -- Berlin, Beijing, Moscow, Copenhagen, Riyadh, Rome, Moscow, The Hague -- have been able to reach their targets for the nine-month period.

The overall export earnings for the July-March period of FY17 amounted to $ 25,946.02 million against the strategic target of $ 27,111 million, showing a fall of 4.30 percent over the strategic target.

Of the 56 Bangladesh missions, some 23 missions met their respective export targets set for the July-March period, according to the latest statistics provided by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

The 23 well-performing missions are in Berlin, Beijing, Moscow, Singapore, Copenhagen, Katmandu, Athens, Colombo, Rabat, Ankara, Bagdad, Bangkok, Vienna, Jakarta, Riyad, Rome, Warsaw, Boirut, Islamabad, Port Lues, The Hague, Lisbon and Tashkent.

Of the 33 missions that could not achieve their targets for the first nine months of the current fiscal, exports still marked a rise for 13 of them over the corresponding period of the last fiscal (2015-16).

These missions are in Kualalampur, Paris, New Delhi, Madrid, Geneva, Brunei, Male, Manama, Doha, Muscat, Manila, Amman and Stockholm.

However, 20 Missions -- London, Tokyo, Tehran, Canberra, Brussels, Ottawa, Yangon, Dubai, Washington, Thimphu, Hong Kong, Cairo, Nairobi, Tripoli, Mexico City, Pretoria, Kuwait, Brasilia, Seoul, and Hanoi -- saw export decline during the July-March period of the current fiscal compared to the same period of the last fiscal (2015-16).

The EPB figures revealed that out of the 18 Bangladesh missions having commercial wings, only four have achieved their export targets while 14 others could not achieve their respective targets.

The four missions with commercial wings, which achieved their respective export targets, are in Berlin, Beijing, Moscow and Singapore. Although the remaining 14 commercial wings could not achieve the target, the earnings of five of them still saw increase over the July-March period of 2015-16 fiscal. These are in Kualalampur, Paris, New Delhi, Madrid and Geneva.

The export growth of the remaining 09 Commercial Wings -- London, Tokyo, Tehran, Canberra, Brussels, Ottawa, Yangon, Dubai and Washington -- is lower than that of the corresponding period of the previous year.

The highest earnings over the nine-month period, some $ 4,598.93 million, almost one fifth of the total exports were registered by the Berlin mission, followed by some $ 4,357.17 million by the Washington mission, and London $ 2,747.38 million.

The strong showing from EU member states continued with the Madrid mission fetching $ 1,491.06 million during the July-March period. The next was the Bangladesh mission in Italy, which earned almost $ 1,056.18 million, followed by missions in Ottawa and The Hague, with approximately $ 775.9 million and $ 755.03 million respectively. The New Delhi mission managed to fetch only $ 522.84 million.
