International Folklore Summer School concludes

The fourth international folklore summer school, organised by Bangla Academy, ended on April 17 through a ceremony at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of the academy. The closing ceremony featured certificate-giving among participants, a book launch and discussion. Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor attended the programme as the chief guest, while Dhaka University vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the closing ceremony. Among others, Bangla Academy director general Shamsuzzaman Khan, Indian folklorist Jawaharlal Handoo, Jawher Sircar, Ashimananda Gangopa dhyay, Sudipto Chatterjee, American folklorist Frank J Korom were present as discussants. Fifteen folklore enthusiasts and researchers participated at the five-day summer school which kicked off on April 13.
 The participants attended classes and seminars on diverse aspects of folklore and also did a field trip as part of the summer school. A book on Social Change and Folklore was launched at the closing ceremony too. The book features writings on folklore and social change by local and foreign folklorists.
