Iffat Ara Dewan performs at Chhayanaut
Noted Tagore singer Iffat Ara Dewan presented Rabindra Sangeet at Chhayanaut auditorium in Dhanmondi on March 17.
Iffat began her performance singing popular Tagore song "Tumi Kemon Kore Gaan Koro He Guni". Next she rendered Tagore's two songs "Tumi Robe Nirobe" and "Pothe Chole Jete Jete". The songs received a good response from the audience.
Chhayanaut organised the musical evening as part of its regular monthly musical soiree titled 'Srotar Asar' - which features performances by a noted singer and promising artiste.
Iffat Ara Dewan is a distinguished vocalist. She trained under the guidance of Waheedul Haque, Sanjida Khatun and completed a five-year course at Chhayanaut Sangeet Vidyayatan. Dewan specialises in Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet, songs by Atul Prasad Sen, Rajanikanta Sen, D L Roy, as well as vintage Bengali songs of the 1920s, 40s, 50s and 60s. Dewan is a recipient of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award, Citycell - Channel i Music Award, and Bangla Academy-Rabindra Puraskar, amongst others. She has performed in Kolkata, Shantiniketan, Delhi, Mumbai in India, and also in the USA, UK, France, Switzerland, Canada and Belgium. She has been a regular performer for Bangladesh TV and Radio since 1968. She has also released several popular music albums over the last decades that have mesmerised the music connoisseurs worldwide.
