Bumper green chilli yield expected in Kishoreganj
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and the farmers in Kishoreganj are expecting a bumper green chilli output in 13 upazilas during this Rabi season.
Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO) of Kishoreganj DAE Md. Maijuddin said, the farmers cultivated green chilli on 3,590 hectares of land till January 7, 2017 exceeding the official cultivation target of 3,585 ha with the production target of 5,664 tonnes.
The marginal farmers and concerned officials of the DAE are expecting a satisfactory production and price of chilli in the district this season since the DAE has provided fertilisers and arranged brief training for the farmers, said SAAO Md. Rostum Ali.
Upazila-wise cultivation target of green chilli is: 190 ha in Hossainpur, 175 ha in Sadar, 200 ha in Pakundia, 310 ha in Katiadi, 325 ha in Karimganj, 425 ha in Tarail, 495 ha in Itna, 110 ha in Mitamain, 280 ha in Nikli, 130 ha in Austagram, 220 ha in Bajitpur, 110 ha in Kuliarchar, and 615 ha in Bhairab upazila.
District Training Officer (DTO) Sadeque Ibn Shams expected bumper production of green chilli this season if the weather remains favourable.
He said, necessary steps have been taken to supply adequate good quality seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and other agricultural inputs among the growers to boost the production.
