In a bid to make the capital free from traffic congestion, hawkers will not be allowed to sell goods in Gulistan and adjoing areas on working days before evening time.

South Dhaka Mayor Sayeed Kokhon came up with this disclosure on wednesday.

The decision was taken in a meeting with leaders from hawkers’ association, local public representatives and law enforcers on Wednesday, he said.

Mayor Khokon said the city corporation would help to rehabilitate the street sellers.

“If anyone of them wants to go abroad, they can submit applications at the city corporation. We will take necessary steps after talking to the overseas employment ministry.” he added.

A list of hawkers, who sit in those areas, has been prepared and identity cards will be provided to them, said the DSCC mayor.
