Suspected dacoit killed in Savar 'gunfight'

A suspected dacoit was killed in a gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Kaundia area of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, early Wednesday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.

Acting on secret information, a team of RAB conducted a drive in a dacoits' den early today, said Commanding Officer of RAB-3 Lt Col Khandaker Golam Sarwar.

Sensing presence of the team, the gang members opened fire at the elite force that triggered a gunfight.

One of the dacoits was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, said an eye-witness account of the encounter.

But other members of the gang managed to flee.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, RAB source said.
