JU Bird Fair draws huge crowd

The Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Friday experienced a huge crowd on the campus on the occasion of annual daylong "Bird Fair-2017".
JU Zoology Department in association with Wild Life Rescue Center, Bangladesh Bird Club and Aronnok Foundation organised the fair. The Zoology Department has been organizing the fair since 2002 with a view to raising mass awareness about preserving the birds.
The bird lovers along with their family members came to the campus and enjoyed the fair.
The campus also wore a festive look as people from all walks of life gathered on the green campus. The visitors came here on the weekend to have taste of immaculate beauty of the nature on the occasion of this bird fair.
JU Treasurer Dr Abul Khair inaugurated the fair in the morning as chief guest on Zahir Raihan Auditorium premises while Chairman of JU Zoology Department Dr Monwar Hossain Tuhin was in the chair.
Besides, three students on Thursday were given "Big Bird Bangladesh-2017 Award".
The Zoology Department had arranged a function on the campus marking its annual bird fair.
The awardees are-Mizanur Rahman Mithu from Rangamati and ex-student of Chittagong University bagged first prize with crest and certificate, Salahuddin Zadid from Jagannath University (second position) and Md Nazmul Hosssain Nisad from Panchagarh and ex-student Dhaka University (EMBA) got the third prize.
Prof of JU History Department ATM Atikur Rahman conducted the programme while prominent Ornithologist Dr Enam Al Haque and officials of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) were present.
Dr Abul Khair said, "Birds and other wild animals play indispensible role to maintain the ecosystem of our environment. They also protect the ecological balance. So, we should have to protect the birds as well as other wild animals."
Different types of events such as inter-university bird identification competition, stall decoration competition, debate competition, bird painting competition for children, watching migratory birds in different spot by telescope for children, quiz competition, discussion and a cultural session relating to birds were held marking the fair.
