The Bangladesh Nationa-list Party (BNP) is unhappy over not getting proper protocol at the Armed Forces Day reception at Senakunja as the party delegation was barred from entering the main tent where Prime Minister, other ministers and diplomats sit.
Although the BNP delegation was allowed inside the main pavilion where all VIP guests had sat in the previous years, but this year the organizers did not arrange any seat for them there.
BNP Standing Commi-ttee member Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman, however, was allowed to sit in the main tent as a former army chief.
According to the BNP sources, four invitation cards were sent to the party for attending the programme.
Former adviser to caretaker government and BNP Vice-Chairman Maj Gen (Retd) Ruhul Alam Chowdhury told the Daily Observer, "The organizers has introduced itself as mean minded as they did not give proper protocol to the BNP delegation."
The BNP delegation led by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to the programme as the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia did not attend it. Last year, Fakhrul was present at the main pavilion and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina exchanged greetings with him there.
This is the fourth successive year she has avoided the event at the Dhaka Cantonment.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and BNP chief's Adviser Sabihuddin Ahmed attend the event with other party leaders.
Khaleda Zia last visited Senakunja on Armed Forces Day in 2012. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had also attended, but they did not speak to each other.
She avoided the event in 2013, before the 10th general election, and sent Mirza Fakhrul to represent the BNP.
