Destiny MD's bail demanded

Journalist leaders on Wednesday demanded immediate bail for Destiny Managing Director Rafiqul Amin.
They also threatened for fast unto death programme if their demand was not met.
The demand came from a human chain, formed by journalist leaders and employees of Boishakhi Television and Dainik Destiny, in front of the National Press Club.
Rufiqul Amin, also the owner of Boishakhi Television and Dainik Destiny, is now in jail under money laundering and embezzlement charges.
Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, chief executive officer and chief editor of Ekushey Television, said, "…the charges brought against Rafiqul are fabricated as no vital proofs are found till now."
Indicating officials of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC)- Manjurul Ahsan, also president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), said keeping anyone in the prison without trial is against of humanity. He also said they will accept the verdict given by the Supreme Court but they want justice. Sailful Islam, News Editor of Boishakhi Television, said managing two organizations- Boishakhi and Destiny Newspaper- is quite difficult without Rafiqul's presence. He also noted Rafiqul is a victim of conspiracy.
President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Saban Mahmud said if the government fails to meet their demand of Rafiqul's bail, they would go for tougher actions and fast unto death. On July 31in 2012, ACC deputy director Mozahar Ali Sarder filed a case with Kalabagan Police Station accusing 12 Destiny-2000 Limited officials, including its chairman and managing director Rafiqul Amin, of misappropriating over Tk 2,106 crore from a Destiny Tree Plantation Project.
