HC questions use of 'Para' on Coca Cola label

HC questions use of 'Para' on Coca Cola label

The High Court on Monday raised question about the use of word regional slang 'Para' on the label of soft drink Coca Cola.

The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader put the question while hearing a writ petition filed seeking direction to stop such words in advertisement that distorts Bangla language.  

The judges of the HC bench expressed their surprise that they never had heard the kind of words used on label of Coca Cola as advertisement.

Advocate Moniruzzaman Rana lodged the writ to the High Court on February 27, seeking an end to such use.

The writ petitioner told the court that it is a distortion of Bangla language. He sought direction to stop distortion of language.

Moniruzzaman Rana said advertisement of Coca Cola are being spread using 'Osthir, Fapor, Matha Nasto, Jotil, Agun, Pisla, Alu, Jinish, Gab, Shei, Bapok, Zero, Baba, Alpin, Arki' etc. words on its label which is tantamount to distortion of Bangla language.
