Woman dies after husband sets her on fire
A woman, who received severe burn injuries after her husband had set her on fire in Gazipur on Monday midnight, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday afternoon.
Deceased Sheuli Akter, 32, was the wife of Sahid Hawlader, 39, a tenant at one Mafia Akter's home in Mulaid village of Shreepur upazila.
Sheuli worked at a factory in the area while Sahid is a driver, said Shreepur Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Abdul Malek.
Mafia told police that hearing hue and cry from the couple's house at 12:00 midnight, they rushed to the scene and found Sheuli in a critical condition.
Being informed by the home owner, police, later, rescued the housewife and admitted her to the Burn Unit of DMCH, the SI added.
Mafia also said this is the second marriage of both Sahid and Sheuli. They used to quarrel over different matters. On Monday night, they locked into an altercation when Sahid demanded money from Sheuli's salary.
SI Malek said accused Sahid also suffered burn injuries in the fire, and is now under police custody.
The man confessed to setting her wife on fire by pouring petrol, the SI also said.
