Solar power project is going to resume in Padma's char of Bagha upazila of Rajshahi.
Three years ago, the project was implemented for six hundred families in densely populated area of undeveloped Char Region, but it has now become almost ineffective. As a result, the subscribers stopped paying bill.
According to the sources, 'Solar Mini Grid' was built on two bighas of land in Dadpur Char in Bagha upazila under the renewable energy program (REP) of the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL). Private company Hydron Bangladesh Private Limited implemented the project.
The cost of construction of Solar mini grid was 6 crore 30 lakh taka. The project is supervised from Kushtia regional office of IDCOL's renewable energy program. Including Dadpur, Palashi and Kalidasakhali Char of the upazila, this electricity connection is given to around 600 subscribers’ house.
Customers complained that since one and a half years, they get electricity in daytime but do not get electricity at night. They have stopped paying bill for this reason.
After visiting the area on Sunday morning, it was seen that the main gate of the Dadpur Char center was open, but none was found inside.
Night guard Liaquat Ali said that "Electricity can be supplied all day, but at night machine cannot be loaded. Subscribers do not pay bills due to lack of adequate power.”
Subscriber Yunus Biswas said, "I have television, three fans and three lights in my house. Power is supplied in daytime, not at night. As a result, children cannot study at night."
Local UP chairman Azizul Azam said, We informed the matter to State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam. He said he would take necessary measure.
Habibur Rahman, manager of Dadpur Char solar power project office, said that 26 solar power projects have been constructed in the country under this project.
Dadpur solar mini grid is not working properly. They rendered good service one and a half years. But due to increased load pressure, electricity cannot be supplied at night.
Hydron Bangladesh authorities said it was good for one and a half years. Customers of the area got all the benefits that time. The power generated from this grid is charged Tk 10 per unit. Monthly line rent was 100 taka.
Currently subscribers are not paying bill. Nearly 3 million taka is pending with the subscribers. It is not possible to reform even if it does not get due money. If the government takes necessary measures then it will be possible to start the work again.
