HC asks to dispose of case against ex-power secy Akhter Hossain
The High on Monday asked the lower court to dispose of the graft case filed against former power secretary ANH Akhter within six months.
Rejecting a plea for quashing the case, an HC bench also said the stay on the case has been lifted and the case will continue.
The HC bench of Justice M Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order.
Earlier on January 6, 2008, the HC stayed the case proceedings for three months and issued a rule asking to know why the case should not be dismissed. On August 8, 2007, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) assistant director M Mahbubul Alam filed a case against Akhter Hossain for misappropriation of money misusing his power.
Since then, the case proceedings have been stayed. The case is still pending at Dhaka's metropolitan court for the investigation report.
In the case, Mahbubul Alam alleged that Hossain misappropriated 61,000 primary shares, out of 3,17,798, of the power division depriving the other Desco officials and employees.
