3rd International Weavers Festival held

The 3rd International Weavers Festival has again taken the stage at the Banani Rajuk field on February 1. The event, which aims to revive the ailing local weaving and handloom industry, empower the weavers, and raise the profile about our indigenous handloom, it featured both top localdesigners exhibiting handloom attires, as well as well-known international designers, accompanied by musical performances by well-known artists Such as Imran Rahman and Pintu.  A special fashion drama" Fashion Fusion" with songs from yester years was showcased with a touch of fusion by wearing sarees draped very differently .
Lifetime Achievement Awards were handed over to weavers this year from the indigenous sector, in recognition for their contribution to the Handloom industries of Bangladesh Dawnaiprue Naly, Parkim Moi Bwon, Promila Tanchangya, Rangapoti Tripura. Stalls from different regions of Bangladesh was displayed and sold at the premise. International stalls from Bhutan, Vietnam etc were also there.
Finance minister A H M Mustafa Kamal (Lotus Kamal), Minister of Finance Division, graced the event as chief guest. Special guests were Tran Van Khoa, Ambassador, Vietnamese Embassy in Bangladesh, Sonam Tobden Rabgye, Ambassador, Bhutanese Embassy in Bangladesh, HE Joo Tabajara de Oliveira Jnior, Ambassador, Brazilian Embassy in Bangladesh, Sakhawat Abu Khair Mohammad, President, Gulshan Society, Dhaka and Festival Chairperson Tootli Rahman
They have two very prominent advisors with them in Rokeya Afzal Rahman entrepreneur (Former advisor to the caretaker govt. of Bangladesh) Brig. Retd and Manzur Qader.

The mega event started with all members of the Bangladesh Heritage Crafts Foundation along with Sandra Tabajara (president of the International crafts in Bangladesh) wife of the Brazillion Ambassador, welcoming everyone with lighted candles with a lovely bangla tune in the background. The highlight of the event was to have under one roof for the first time ever the icons of our country from 11 sectors.

Freedom fighters- Dalia, Timir Nandi, Laila Hasan, Top Women Entrepreneurs - Rokia Afzal Rahman, Rowshan Murshed ,  Actors- Champa, Firdaus, Nipun, Singers- Nashid Kamal, Fatema Tuz-Zohra,  Dancers- Shohag, Dolly Iqbal, TV Personality- Munni Saha, Entrepreneur (Power Couple) Sayeed Siddiqui (Rumi) and Ashrafun Siddiqui (Dora) of CATS EYE,  Artists- Rokeya Sultana, Munirul Islam,  Corporate- Parveen Mahmud CA, Ameenah Ahmed gemcon group, Wasima Parveen, Teaching Profession, Firdaus Murshed Head of BIDS,  the think tank Makeover Artists- Nelofar Khandakar (Neelo's), Quazi Quamrul Islam (Ban Thai), Afroza Parveen Ujjawla. Cricket Players- Akram Khan and two other past captains.

"We want to make our crafts global - we made the foundation International so that we can learn from each other's heritage and crafts and know about our culture too," said The Festival chairperson Tootli Rahman.
The fashion began with 10 local prominent designers who displayed attires with all hand loom fabrics. They are as follows- Anokhi (Humaira Khan), Chaman's (Chaman Chowdhury), Z & Z Collections (Simily), Moon's Boutique (Nasrin Jahan Munmun), Bishwo Rang (Biplob Saha), Tangail Kutir (Munira Emdad), Cats Eye (Sadiq Quddus), J S Fashion (Jahanara Rahman Jhunu), Shabana Ali & Libasse.
The international participants were from Brazil, Sri-Lanka, Mexico, Cyprus, Thailand, Philippines, Egypt, Indonesia, Bhutan, Malaysia, Vietnum & India. Starting with Brazil and ending with India.
It was overall a very successful event well attended with top dignitaries, Govt Officials  Corporate officials and media. It indeed was super successful with a house full with everyone enjoying each moment of this mega event.
