'Adda de Poetica' held at NDUB
A poetry discussion session with international and national poets
Notre Dame University Bangladesh English Club (NDUBEC) organised a seminar on contemporary world poetry entitled 'Adda de Poetica' on 2 February 2019 at 11:30am onwards. This programme was a part of the Dhaka International Poet Summit 2019 which was organized by Kathak, says a press release.
Present at the programme were Professor Dr Fr Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC, Vice Chancellor of NDUB, Fr Adam S Pereira, CSC, Registrar, Fr. Tom McDermott, CSC, Director, English Language Center, Dr Br Leo J Pereira, CSC, Deputy Controller of Examinations.
Also present at the programme were foreign poets from various countries, viz. Kama Kamanda from Congo, Dr Tianxin Cai from China, Claire Booker from the UK, Dr Ali Al-Shalah from Iraq. Moreover, from Bangladesh, prominent poet and President of Dhaka International Poet Summit, Aminur Rahman was present.
The programme initiated with a few welcoming words from Prof Dr Fr Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC. Throughout the seminar, the poets shared their poems based on various contexts such as war, love, poverty, and success. At the end of the poetry session an adda (informal discussion) session was organized where the students voiced their queries to the poets in a panel discussion and the poets provided answers through their insightful array of inter-cultural knowledge and experience.
The seminar winded down with a vote of thanks on behalf of NDUB and NDUBEC delivered by Fr Adam S Pereira, CSC. It was organized by NDUB English Club moderator and co-moderator Habiba Akter and Ahmed Tahsin Shams respectively who are faculties of the department of English at NDUB.
