Congratulations PM for being in the club of 100 global intellectual elites
The internationally renowned and award winning US-based Foreign Policy Journal has ranked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as one of the 100 leading thinkers in the world. It is indeed a monumental achievement for the PM and Bangladesh. By achieving such coveted honour for the country, the PM has actually branded Bangladesh in the international forum of diplomacy and intellectualism.
We offer our unequivocal greetings to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her landmark accomplishment in the world of globally impactful thinkers. The trend of deeper logical thinking, astute diplomacy and courage was set long ago by our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Muibur Rahman , no wonder that the PM successfully continues to carry forward legacy of her illustrated father.
Last year the Prime Minister was ranked 26th in the Forbes's listing of world's 100 most powerful women.
Referring to the eligibility criterion of the list, the Foreign Policy Journal said they selected the leading global thinkers cautiously considering their stake in shaping the global mindset and policies.
The magazine specified, "In a year of worldwide economic crisis and dangerous
wars, of radical innovation and newfound realpolitik culture, street revolution and blunt rhetoric, we could think of no better way to make sense of it than through the big ideas of those who shape our understanding of the world. " On that note - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has not only uplifted the country's image at the global stage, but also played a crucial role in regional geopolitical stage by responding to a massive security challenge posed by Myanmar and terrorist groups.
On one hand, she restrained from resorting to military solution against Myanmar, while on the other her government, despite security challenges, gave shelter to more than a million Rohingya refugees purely from a humanitarian viewpoint. Such non-conventional technique to tackle a humanitarian crisis in today's complex world is rarely seen. Furthermore, the PM's diplomatic endeavour for uniting a global opinion on the humanitarian crisis has been appreciated worldwide. In fact, her foreign trips, speeches delivered in international forums and platforms are strikingly similar to India's late lamented Premier Indira Gandhi's relentless efforts for uniting world opinion in support of the cause of independence of Bangladesh and against the genocide of Pakistan occupation army in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Whatever the world now think and know about the persecuted Rohingyas in Myanmar became possible only for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's unrelenting stand against the face of extreme odds.
There, in fact, have been a number of powerful leaders in the region, namely the Indian and Chinese head of states, whereas their response to the Rohingya crisis was somewhat slow and indisposed - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the only regional leader to have been prompt enough to address the crisis - at home and abroad. Despite limitations in resources and space for accommodating the refugees, she appeared courageous for uniting the rest of the world for solving the crisis.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 'zero tolerance' stand against terrorist groups in the wake of nightmarish Holy Artisan Cafe mayhem three years back has restored the confidence of the people and earned the trust of the world that Bangladesh is capable to combat terrorism. She used her law enforcing agencies to curb terrorist groups and at the same time she evoked peoples response against terrorism by her call for peace and stability.
However, now that Prime Minister has emerged as a global leader , we believe, her rational and well-timed decision making abilities will help in establishing peace and prosperity in the country, region and far beyond.
Other than just international recognition and ranking the world is witnessing how the Daughter of the Nation, as she is adored by the people, has been playing a key role to impact local and international issues. More to it, at the same time another success story is also being written of her undertaking of colossal challenges for ensuring the country's development earning global recognition as the 'Role Model' of development.
We believe, had there been an international rating system for undertaking huge development challenges by defying international constraints - Sheikh Hasina would indisputably top the list.
Once more, congratulations Prime Minister for your distinguished achievements that bring global laurels not only for you but also for Bangladesh.
