Thrust on making Vitamin A+ Campaign in Khulna a success
KHULNA, Jan 13: Speakers at a divisional level inception and planning meeting here on Sunday underscored the need for making the National Vitamin A+ Campaign 2019 scheduled to be observed on January 19 next a total success.
Observing the second round Vitamin A+ Campaign, Department of Health in Khulna Division organised the programme to devise ways and means on how to make the programme a complete success.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Faruk Hossain addressed the meeting as chief guest while Director of the Department of Health in Khulna Division Dr Shushanta Kumar Roy chaired the meeting.
Among others, Director and Deputy Director of Family Planning Division of Khulna Shariful Islam and Principal of Khulna Medical College Dr Md Abdul Ahad, spoke.
The chief guest said the main goal of the campaign is to maintain the prevalence of night blindness in children less than one per cent through maintaining the high coverage of Vitamin A supplementation among under five-year children.
He said, in Bangladesh Vitamin A supplementation save over 50,000 life of under five-year children per year along with reduction in the severity and duration of illness like measles and diarrhoea.
Besides, it ensures over 20 million under five-year children free from Vitamin A deficiency and prevents nutritional blindness.
The meeting was told that a total of 16, 39,802 babies aged under 12-59 months will be administered red colour Vitamin A capsule in Khulna Division.
Meanwhile, a total of 2, 86,617 babies under 6-11 months will be administered blue colour capsule in the division.
