Mash, Miraz set antique example
The 13th match of the 6th Bangladesh Premier League 2019 between Rajshahi Kings and Rangpur Riders on Sunday witnessed a unique record when both the skippers opened with bat and ball in the match.
The sensational young man Mehidy Hasan Miraz became the first Tiger to opening both the batting and bowling innings for Bangladesh on September 28 in the final of the 14th Asia Cup between Bangladesh and India.
The 21 years old wonder boy, popular as the off-break bowler, was vested with the responsibility to captain Rajshahi Kings outfit for current session BPL. He also emerged as opener with both bat and ball against Chittagong Vikings on January 11 but this time as a captain. That was the first such incident in BPL history.
Yesterday's clash however, becomes immortal not for its cricket circumspect but for the captains of the two outfits of the franchise tournament. Mehidy Miraz continues his opening role with both bat and ball as a skipper. But it was Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who made the day historic. Mash opened with the ball to seize two wickets and there was nothing to surprise here. But Mash accompanied Chris Gayle to open with the bat! It was the history.
That was the first cricket match at bigger stages not only in Bangladesh but throughout the world where both the sides got such an opener who delivered first with both bat and ball. And the incident is alien for two side's captains, of course.
