Another accused in Noakhali gang-rape case arrested
Noakhali, Jan 11: Detectives arrested another accused in a case over gang-rape of a woman at Charbajuli village in Subarnachar upazila on December 31 from Gouripur in Cumilla district on Friday.
The arrestee is Jamaluddin alias Henju Majhi, 29.
Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in Gouripur area and arrested Henju Majhi, who remained absconding since the incident came to light, said Abul Khayer, inspector of DB police.
With this, 11 people have so far been arrested over the gang-rape.
The victim in her forties said she and her family were attacked by a gang of 10-12 at midnight on December 30 because an argument she had with ruling Awami League supporters during voting on the day.
The attackers broke into the house of the victim, beat up her husband and tied him up and their school-going daughter inside the house. She was dragged outside where she was repeatedly raped and beaten up severely.
The victim said the
attackers were 'accomplices' of Ruhul Amin, then publicity secretary of the Subornachar unit of Awami League. Amin was arrested and expelled from the ruling party.
She had earlier complained to Deputy Inspector General of Police Khandaker Golam, who was visiting her at Noakhali Sadar Hospital on January 2, about Ruhul Amin not being recorded as a suspect in the case with the Char Jabbar Police.
The following night Ruhul was arrested while he was hiding at a poultry farm at Noakhali Sadar upazila.
