While viewers are increasingly joining the ranks for online platforms small screen and big screen productions are losing the appeal. Directors are rather resorting to these platforms like iflix, Netflix. In this backdrop the successes at box office in previous year were scant. Still films like Debi, Haldaa managed to attract viewers. Rich in content and compositions these productions can provide glimpses of hope for similar ones coming this year. The list includes Saturday Afternoon, Iti Tomari Dhaka, Fagun Haway, Rohingya, Beauty Circus, Jodi Ekdin, Shaapludo, Holud Bani and also Shikolbaha from Kamar Ahmad Simon, Masud Rana, Furut among others. Seeing that the list is long film buffs can keep their fingers crossed for a better year this time.

Saturday Afternoon
Saturday Afternoon or "Shonibarer Bikel" will be Farooki's first film after the debates over 'Doob.' Two actors of the film are promising wife of Farooki, Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Palestinian actor Eyad Hourani. Also in the list are Jahid Hasan, Tollywood star Parambrata Chatterjee, theatre personality Mamunur Rashid and more. Variety first broke the news on October 16, 2017. Eyad Hourani previously co-starred in Belgian film Omar that won numerous awards at Cannes Film Festival and was nominated in the foreign language category at Oscars. It is the first part of a trilogy planned by Farooki named "Identity Trilogy". The storyline relates to three strangers who encounter one-another on a day that leads to a series of thrills that have been speculated to surround the Holey Artisan Incident of 2017. The film is joint-production of three countries: Bangladesh-Germany and India.

Aziz Zhambakiev, who won the Silver Bear at Berlin Film Fest for the film "Harmony Lessons" at just the age of 26 is the cinematographer. The film has a budget estimate of $500,000. About the series Identity Trilogy, Farooki has said, "Identity seems to be the biggest puzzle now. It can bring you fortune or terror. It no more depends on what you do or did. In this new world order, it depends on who you are, what religion you belong to, what color of skin you have. Depending on this, you might be favored or terrorized".  "It sounds medieval in this digital age. But our human values are going in completely the opposite direction to our technological achievements."
