Tarique’s former APS remanded
A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Mia Nuruddin Apu, former APS to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, on a five-day remand in a case filed for money laundering and terrorism.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari passed the order as the Inspector Ashraful Islam of Criminal Investigation
Department (CID) produced him before it with a prayer of a ten-day remand, General Recording Officer (GRO) Md Jalal Uddin said.
On the other hand, his lawyer Advocate Mojibor Rahman Dulal submitted a petition to cancel the remand.
A team of RAB-1 arrested Apu from United Hospital in the capital on January 4 in the case after three persons, including a former employee of the infamous Hawa Bhavan, were arrested with Tk 8.15 crore from Motijheel.
According to police, Apu is undergoing treatment in the cabin number 503 in United Hospital. His treatment will go under RAB custody.
On December 25 three persons were arrested along with eight crore 15 lakh taka cash after conducting a drive at a firm named United Corporation situated on the 26th floor of the City Center at Motijheel in the capital.
The arrested were businessman Ali Haidar, Managing Director of export-import and contractor firm United Corporation, Joynal of Amena Enterprise from Gulshan and Alamgir Hossain, Office Manager of United Corporation.
Of them, Joynal was an employee of 'Hawa Bhaban'.
On December 26, the three persons, including a former employee of the infamous Hawa Bhavan, arrested with Tk 8.15 crore, were placed on a five-day remand by another Dhaka Court.
Nuruddin Apu took part in the eleventh national parliament election with the symbol 'Sheaf of Paddy' from Shariatpur-3 constituency.
There Awami League candidate Nahim Razzak was elected bagging 2 lakh 72 thousand 18 votes. Apu got 2 thousand 664 votes.
The arrested accused Ali Haider said his maternal uncle and Chairman of the United Enterprise Mahmudul Hasan's close friend Miah Noor Uddin Ahmed Apu is an aspirant from Shariatpur -3 constituency. Apu was the personal Secretary to BNP Acting Chairman Tareque Rahman in Hawa Bhaban.
It was alleged that Apu took Tk 3 crore from Joinal Abedin, General Manager of Amena Enterprise of Gulshan, two to three days ago for carrying out sabotage and to influence the election results.
