BNP’s Abdus Sattar wins in B’baria-2

BNP-backed candidate Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan has been unofficially elected in Brahmanbaria-2 constituency on Wednesday.

Re-election at three suspended centres- Jatrapur Govt Primary School, Bahadurpur Govt Primary School and Sohagpur Dakkhin Govt Primary School- in the seat was held Wednesday.

BNP candidate Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan with ‘Paddy Sheaf’ symbol bagged 83,997 votes while his nearest rival independent contender Moyeenuddin Moyeen with ‘Kalar Chhara’ (Stalk of Bananas) pocketed 75,419 votes.

Earlier, the re-balloting in the three centres -- Jatrapur Govt Primary School, Bahadurpur Govt Primary School and Sohagpur Dakkhin Govt Primary School -- started at 8am and continued till 4pm.

On December 30, the announcement of the results was postponed as the number of votes in the three centres was higher than the difference between the two leading candidates' tallies.
