EC starts sending polls materials

The Election Commission on Saturday started sending election materials except ballot papers to the regional and district level election offices across the country to hold the upcoming national parliamentary elections smooth, free and fair.
The steps to send the necessary materials were taken as a part of preparation to hold the election to
be held on December 30 this year smoothly.
Initially, the election materials were sent to 32 districts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal Division on Saturday while the rests of the districts of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattagram and Sylhet Division will be given on Sunday.
Election Commission's Additional Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman told this correspondent on Saturday they are prepared to hold the election smoothly in a free and fair manner. As part of it, the EC has started sending elections materials to the regional and district election offices.
Some of the districts have already received the materials. The rests will be given gradually, he said adding that it will take time to print ballot papers as the final lists of candidates and allocation of symbols have not yet completed. After completion of the procedures, those will be printed and sent to the field level offices.
According to the Election Commission Secretariat officials, initially the election materials like stamp pads, official seals, marking seals, brush seals, indispensable ink pens, bags, charger lights, calculators, stapler machines and pins have been supplied.
Besides, the identification (ID) cards for the presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and polling officers and other election officials, election directories, forms and others packets have been delivered from the government printing press.
Mokhlesur Rahamn said that the EC will allocate symbols on December after completion of withdrawal of candidature by Sunday. After Monday, the EC will take steps to print the ballot papers. Those will also be sent to those offices before seven days of the elections.
EC Store keeper Abdullah Al Mamun and Administrative Officer Kamrul Hassain informed that they were asked to complete supply of the products before December 27. To ensure it, the materials were given. The ballots papers will be supplied at the final stage.
