One lakh MT potato production planned in Kishoreganj
KISHOREGANJ, Dec 8: The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has set a target of potato farming on 6,540 hectares of land in 13 upazilas of the district during the current Rabi season with a production target of 1,37,340 metric tons of potato, said Sadeque Ibn Shams, district training officer (DTO) of the DAE.
Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO) Md Rustom Ali said the crop has already been cultivated on 1,910 ha of land till November 26.
Of the total target, 380 ha of land would be brought under the cultivation with a production target of 7,980 MT in Hossainpur, 320 ha with a target of 6,720 MT in Kishoreganj Sadar, 1,400 ha with a target of 29,400 metric tons in Pakundia, 455 ha with a target of 9,555 MT in Katiadi, 640 ha with a target of 13,440 MT in Karimganj, 250 ha with a target of 5,250 MT in Tarail, 170 ha with a target of 3,570 MT in Itna, 145 ha with a target of 3,045 MT in Mithamoin, 370 ha with a target of 7,770 MT in Nikli, 265 ha with a target of 5,565 MT in Austagram, 485 ha with a target of 10,185 MT in Bajitpur, 340 ha with a target of 7,140 MT in Kuliarchar, and 1,320 ha with a target of 27,720 MT in Bhairab upazilas.
Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation and a number of NGOs have taken steps to provide quality potato seeds among the farmers to ensure its proper cultivation.
The authorities concerned have taken adequate steps for ensuring smooth supply of chemical fertilisers, pesticides, technical assistant and others inputs to the potato growers at grassroots level.
