The Election Commission (EC) on Monday asked the registered political parties to name their final candidates by December 9 in the parliamentary seats where the parties or alliances have more than one candidate.
On Sunday, the commission sent letters signed by its Deputy Secretary Md Abdul Halim Khan to the 39 registered parties.
Talking to the Daily Observer, EC Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmmed Khan said candidates of unregistered political party who wants to take part in the polls with symbols of other party will have to submit nomination papers as candidates of that party. Some 3,065 nomination papers of 39 political parties and independent candidates were submitted to the EC. Of them, 786 papers were canceled by the returning officers on Sunday after scrutiny.
Khan said the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is December 9. On that day, those political parties and alliances, which have more than one candidate, will have to inform about a single candidate while other nomination papers will be canceled.
