Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said there is no doubt that BNP will take part in the upcoming national elections. He came up with the remark while briefing journalist at Awami League President's Dhanmondi political office in the capital.
When asked on Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed's comment that the Commission must be informed by three days about joining the election in alliance, Quader said they will seek more time in this regard as the 'polarisation equation' is going on."
Earlier on the day, Quader said Jatiya Oikyafront's participation announcement appears to be a matter of formality now.
He made the comment while talking to journalists after paying tributes to Nur Hossain in capital's Zero Point on the occasion of his martyrdom. On this day in 1987, Awami Juba League leader Nur Hossain, who bore slogans "Free democracy" and "Down with autocracy"on his bare chest and back, embraced martyrdom in police firing during an anti-autocracy demonstration at the city's Zero Point, now known as Shaheed Nur Hossain Square.
He said the Jatiya Oikyafront and BNP leaders violated the election code of conduct with their aggressive speeches at a rally in Rajshahi as poll schedule has already been announced.
"We do not know why the Jatiya Oikyafront is frustrated over the next general election. But there is also a ray of hope in their depression," Quader said replying to a query from journalists. In the press conference, Awami League joint general secretaries, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organisng secretaries AKM Enamul Haque Shamim , Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, and office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap were, among others, present.
