Four killed in road mishaps in three districts
Four persons including two women were killed and 21 others injured in separate road accidents in three districts- Naogaon, Habiganj and Sirajganj, in three days.
NAOGAON: Two women were killed in a road accident at Tajpur Gohati on Shapahar-Porsha road Shapahar Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Momtaj Begum alias Kinarbi, 50, wife of Hajeruddin of Bhagparul Village in the upazila and her younger brother Anarul islam's wife Monwara Begum, 45.
Witnesses said Momtaj and Monwara came to Shapahar Upazila to see their ailing relatives. When their auto-rickshaw reached the area, a cow-laden bhatbhati hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving Momtaz Begum dead on the spot and Monwara Begum injured.
She was rushed to Shapahar Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared her dead.
HABIGANJ: A labourer was killed and another injured in a collision between a bus and a tractor on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Chargaon area under Bahubal Upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sajal Sarker, 22, son of Kotia Sarker of Kandigaon Village under Bhadeswar Union of the upazila.
Eyewitnesses said a bus of Hanif Paribahan from Dhaka collided with a tractor at the said area, leaving the labourer killed on the spot and one injured.
The injured tractor driver Rubel Mia, 28, son of Yakut Mia of Prubajoypur Village in the upazila was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bahubal Police Station (PS) Masuk Mia confirmed the news.
SIRAJGANJ: One person was killed and 20 others were injured in separate road accidents in the district in two days.
An unknown youth was crushed under a truck at Mohishluti area in Tarash Upazila on Friday morning.
Hatikumrul Highway PS OC Abdul Kader Jilany said a truck dashed a parked Rajshahi-bound bus at the said area, leaving one bus passenger dead on the spot.
The body was recovered, while another injured in this incident was admitted to a local hospital.
Police seized the bus and the truck, but their drivers and helpers fled the scene.
On the other hand, at least 20 passengers of two buses were injured in a road accident at Bhadraghat No. 4 Bridge area of Bangabandhu West connecting highway under Kamarkhand Upazila early Saturday.
The injured were admitted to Sirajganj 250-Bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hospital, and of them the condition of four is critical, said Emergency Department physician of the hospital Dr Faisal Mahmud.
Deputy Assistant Director of Sirajganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Md Abdul Hamid said the drivers of two Dhaka-bound buses lost control over steering when they were competing with each other.
As a result, one bus fell in a roadside ditch and another dashed a roadside tree, leaving 20 passengers of both the buses injured.
