Barishal JCD leader arrested
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday protested against the arrest of a local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Detective Branch (DB) of Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) arrested Mushfiqul Hasan Masum, JCD central committee member and a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Road of the city for alleged drug peddling.
Police arrested him while he was returning home after attending the November 7 preogramme of Oikya Front in Dhaka city.
Bilkis Jahan Shirin, BNP central organizing secretary in charge of Barishal division, termed the arrest of JCD leader by DB police political.
“It was absolutely a political arrest and Masum never was accused of any kind of drug peddling and even not knew the co-arreste.̏
DB spokesman denying the claim of BNP leader, said drugs were recovered according to the information collected from the arrested and it was not a fake case and has no relation with politics.
DB also claimed that Md Sabuj Islam Sahin, another drug peddler, also was arrested with Masum as his associate.
Moazzem Hossain, spokesman of BMP DB, told after interrogating the arrested and according to their information, 232 bottles of Phensidyl and 55 litters liquor, hidden under ground, were recovered from two places in Zia Sarak area of the city.
DB handed over the arrested with the recovered narcotics and filed two cases under Narcotics Control Act in this connection on November 7 late night with Barishal Kotwali Police Station, said Nurul Islam, Kotwali police station officer in charge.
