Tk 1256cr project to free Ctg from water-logging
CHATTOGRAM, Nov 8: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is going to implement a project involving Tk 1256 crore to free the city dwellers from the curse of water-logging.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project in its meeting on November 7 with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation AJM Nasiruddin has thanked the government for approval of the project. He also appealed to the government to disburse the fund as early as possible.
'With the implementation of the project, at least 50 per cent of water-logging problem will be solved,' Mayor said, adding that the CCC will go for implementation of the project soon after getting the fund.
Under the project, a canal will be excavated from Bahadderhat to Bolirhat including the re-excavation and excavation of several new cananls to pave the way for quick discharge of rain water during the rainy season. The project work will complete in June 2020.
The 2.9 kilometres long and 65 feet wide canal will be excavated under the project with 20 feet wide road on both sides of the canal.
UNDP- aided masterplan for Chattogram City has been prepared in 1995 to excavate three canals to remove water-logging from the port city.
