Komola Rocket has won the 'Best Debut Director Award' at the fourth Jaffna International Film Festival. Noor Imran Mithu, director of the film has won the award. He said that in the festival closing session members of the jury panel specifically discussed about his film. They all were ecstatic about the film. This is a pleasing experience for him, Mithu noted. His win also marks Bangladesh's first win in the film festival.
The festival ran from October 3 to 8 in Sri Lanka. This festival is specifically for debutants in filmmaking. The first films by these filmmakers are invited in the festival. In this regard Mithu can be said to have won the best film award in the festival, as this is the only prime category for full-length features in the festival. This year eighty new films made in thirty countries took part in the festival. Among them eight were nominated for the final prize.
Komola Rocket takes inspiration from two stories 'Moulik' and 'Cyprus' written by Shahaduzzaman. The screenplay of the film has been penned by both Mithu and Shahaduzzaman. Key actors of the film are Tauquir Ahmed, Mosharraf Karim, Joyraj etc. The film presents a picture that represents contemporary post-modern Bangladesh by means of a steamer filled with passengers.
Mithu has confirmed that now he would take the film to Goa International Film Festival in India.
