SCLS Law Olympiad held in Chattogram
Society for Critical Legal Studies (SCLS), a Chittagong Universiy, Law Faculty based study circle has successfully hosted the second season of SCLS Law Olympiad as a signature program from 28th September to 29 September at East Delta University.
With a view to promoting human rights and humanity, the theme for this grand competition was "voice against human rights violation, step toward humanity."
In this season of the Olympiad, 64 participants of 32 teams from different universities represented their respective universities. There were argumentative skill round, critical eye round, rebellious spirit round, action plan round and symposium round. Participants competed on presentation, real-life problem solving, critical ability, policy-making competence in these rounds.
Mr Justice Md. Habibul Gani, Judge of the High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, was present as the Chief Guest of the competition. Prof. Muhommod Sekandar Khan, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, East Delta University and Fatema Zebunnesa, additional district trainer of Rotary International were also present. The Chief Guest of the programme Mr Habibul Gani said that the actual implementation of laws has been the biggest challenge in our country. By arranging a programme like law olympiad, SCLC is contributing to making the law students more cautious about their duties and responsibilities.
The competition has been felicitated by different legal personnel of the country. Academics, jurists, judges, human rights activists, advocates, NGO officials etc. from various institutions acted as adjudicators at the competition. Two teams from Brac University respectively won the Championship and Runner-Up Trophy.
Society for Critical Legal Studies (SCLS) is a student formed study circle of students of the Faculty of Law, University of Chittagong. It has successfully organized various national events including Professor Dr.Khabir Uddin Memorial Moot Court Competition on International Law, Law Olympiad, SCLS Students' Tribunal against the Genocide on Rohingyas, workshops, seminars, field research etc. SCLS aims to contribute to the facets of the Legal study of Bangladesh.
